Five Dollars Get Out Of Town...

New Age people is something that really pisses me off and twice in the last few weeks i have encounted shit from these sort of people. As some may know I have recently decideded to go straight edge, so I figured that I should look into what its about and where it came from and shit like that, Only to find that new age people have had there way with it and naturaly fucked it up. I shall give you some background info on straight edge, the idea of it came from the drummer from Minor Threat as a reblion against the nihlism of punk. the simple rules he came up with were Dont Drink which is self explantory. He saw what alcohol was doing to people. Next was Dont Smoke again he saw what smoking did to peole. The last Rule was Dont Fuck now to me this seems like a moral rule that he had, his idea behind it was that no casual sex, he thought that it should only occur when two people were ready to commit to it and both loved aech other and as we all know thats the way it should be. So ont these new age tools, No they werent happy with these simple rules and had to add to it with shit like being vegan and no swearing (Fuck That) and no fighting and endless other pointless crap. Now my point of contention is why the fuck did it need to be changed? there was nothing wrong with what was the orignal idea/rule they are simple they make sense and anyone can follow them not having to guess what is part of straight edge this week. So thats why I now call myslef and Old Skool Stright Edge. My second dealing is with some new age femminsit at tafe. I'll shall set the scene there was no work to be done in tafe on wednesday night so we ajorned our class to the pub (I'm cool with going to the pub even being sXe, i belive that my view should not be forced on others,i'll just drink lemonade) now my freind rang me and said if you go and enroll for me I'll buy you and Emily hot chips, so we went and enrolled her now my friend tried to get out of this so on the way to the pub I was calling her a dirty whore all in jest mind you, now we get to the pub and im still calling her this all in jest. When one of these femminsit freaks feels the need to tell me off because I just happen to be male and of course we all know all men are evil and me must hate them and ever chance we get we should tell men off, now im all for equal rites for women i believe that everyone should be equal but i find it a little hypocritacl of the whole movement when every chance they have they have a go at a man its utter bullshit. so now ive gone out on my tangent I will get back to the story she goes to me "I dont think its very apporprate the call Lisa a dirty whore" I reply "Its all in jest im joking around i know that, she knows that" with this new age tool to reply with ''I dont think there words you use to joke around with, there derogitry...." and so on with some big speal now i cant remember what else she said cos i stoped listen by about her second statement. My point is if you dont like what im doing or saying than Fuck Off and leave dont give me some speal about it, i not a child. If I dont like what someone is saying or doind I fuck off and leave, which is what i promplty did. I said to my mate Tim come on lets go and we left with out me saying anyhting we just left its that easy if you dont like it go away or turn whatever it is off its that simple. I'd like to start a new movemnet the anti-new age movment to get rid of these fucking tools that seem to fuck just about everything up.

Australians, our government is bamboozling us. The wool has been pulled over our eyes. It could be the wool from the back of the sheep that this proud country rode to greatness. Our current government is making moves to reduce the senates power to block legislation. If this occurs this would give the government the power to make any sort of laws they wish. This could not be a very good thing for Australians coming from a government that has dragged our good name through the mud with the Iraq conflict, and given us the G.S.T. and yet we still pay the same amount of income tax. It is time for us to stop ignoring the going ons in Canberra. We need to take action because if the current government changes the Senates power to stop legislation what will be next? We will see Medicare disappear for those who need it, those who cant afford it. They will enact these outlandish terrorist laws that will impinge on our rights to privacy and the Australian way. The current government is becoming very much akin to the American style of government with its scaremongering, you, the Australian public. They have already tried this with the anti terrorism booklet, which was widely rejected by the Australian public and rightfully so. It is time for us, people. Time for us to stand together as one. United as one we will stand. Stand to say no to John Howard and his government. It is time to take action. If enough of us make enough noise we can change what is about to happen before our very eyes without us knowing until it is to late. We need to stand together as one and smash the tyranny that we currently have for a government.

Don tried to go over the events in his mind it had only happened a few hours ago it all seemed so clear but was it or with all that happened or he had misconstrued the events. He had only stoped at the bar for one drink this had been one of the hardest cases he had in a long time and he was so close cracking it he almost had all the pieces he needed it was just a matter of get this one last piece of information and then making the connections to solve it. He could smash to mafia crime ring that was running this town and bring in the mafia bosses and clean up this town, which was what he had set out to do from the day he got his assignment to this town. A detective that had blown in from the big smoke of New York to try and clean up this mid sized town in Pennsylvania. Had been here a good six months he wasnt very welcomed by the boys in the force when he first got here but once they saw he meant business an he wanted to run the mafia out of town he was more than welcome by them.

Don had stoped at the bar he had been calling his local for the past four months now, some one must of slipped something in his drink he was in his way to meet his informant hopefully will that piece of information that he needed. But he never made it there, ho ordered his usual from the bar man a scotch on the rocks he finished it in about half an hour and went to order a seconded one but by the time he made it back to his usual booth up in the back corner he was slumped over on the table. The next thing he knew he came to in the trunk of a car racing along a deserted road in the middle of the woods he had no idea of what time it was let alone where he was. Don had no idea how long hed been passed out for he new there was no use in trying to kick the boot open and make an escape because the car was flying along. Don would have to wait until his assailants had decided what they were going to do to him or even where they were going to take him. His fait was in there hands he didnt even know how many of them had kidnapped him.

The car came to s sudden halt, it was dark Don could tell this because there was no light shinning in through the gaps in the seal of the trunk. Don heard four voices he figured out that there must be four of them this ruined any ideas he had of ambushing them and making an escape when they opened the trunk. He couldnt hear what they were saying but he could make out four different voices. Don waited what seemed like an eternity in the trunk there was no light so he couldnt check his watch but he still felt fairly groggy he had been lapsing in and out of consciences since he had come to the first time. The voices came nearer there were six now they got even closer then the trunk opened and immediately the was the barrel of a Tommy gun thrust in his face. A voice yelled at him move a muscle and ya gone. Don was helped out of the trunk by to of the six men it was night and it was in the middle of the woods he could not make out the faces of any of the men, this was probably a cunning trick by the men so that there faces could not be seen. He was shoved towards a cabin in the middle of the woods.

One of the men knocked on the door and spoke some words he could not hear what was said as he was held to far away from the door. A few bolts were unlocked and the thick wooden door swung open, there would have easily been ten men inside this cabin but it was very large. Don was shoved in the back he moved forward he was held up by to men he passed into the cabin it was completely set up for a group of men to hold up in with a small armoury of weapons hanging up on the walls and a man standing by every window with a gun in his hand. Don was forced to sit down at a big table, across from him sat four men all in suits. Don noticed a clock on the wall it was eleven oclock and he had finished work at four hed been missing for six hours now he wondered if the word had been put out that he was missing.

The man in the middle opened his mouth to speak he had a thick Jersey accent he told Don we dont like what your doing here in this town, weve got our nice little business running and we dont need no renegade detective trying to shut us down.The four men waited for Don to acknowledge them and what the boss had said the big man went on to say tonight is only a small showing of our power, if you know whats good for you, youll give up this case and go back to New York, but I warn you if you carry on worse things will happen, things will not only happen to you but also to your family and friends Don nodded to show he understood what had be said and what they mafia bosses meant. Then Don was grabbed by the same four men and had a blindfold placed over his eyes and was forced back out the door and towards the car. Just as he was about to be forced into the trunk again a fierce blow struck him on the head and when he came to he was back on the steps of the police station he had only left seven or eight hours ago.

The issue of whether violence in video games affect gamers has only come about in the past ten years and there has been fierce debate from both sides over whether it affects gamers. It is an important subject that must be taken seriously as there is a rise in violent crimes in todays society, and especially in schools. There have been a lot of claims that it affects gamers but the gaming companies claim that this is not the case. This essay will consider the argument that video games are too violent. It will then put forward reasons why video games are a valuable resource that help children learn.

Lt. Col David Grossman claims that with the technology that the military uses, it is breeding a new form of solider that is insensitive to killing and shows no real remorse for the act of killing he or she has just committed. He states that through his military experience he has seen how violent video games desensitize soldiers and he believes that these violent video games have the same effect on children. However a study from Lynn Okagaki and Peter Frensch from the University of Missouri found that playing the popular computer game Tetris had helped adolescents to rotate objects mentally. Moreover a large study involving two hundred students in the U.S.A. and Italy conducted by Patricia Greenfield from the University of California found that video games informally prepare children for learning about science and technology. She wrote in an article in the 1994 Journal of Applied Developmental Psychology Mastery of the symbolic codes used in computer graphics becomes increasingly important as more science and technology comes to be done on computer screens, rather than in the material world. As researchers from the Wisconsin Occupational Therapy Program show, video games can powerfully propel the mind toward specific goals. Furthermore Paula Tallal from the Rutgers University uses game like drills to help children who suffer from Language Learning Impairment which arises when children can not sort out sounds in rapid speech. Through thousands of repetitions, the drills rewrite neural maps in the childs brain so that they can make out the sounds in rapid speech. In addition NASA psychologist Steve Pope is keen on video games as therapeutic tools to help treat attention deficit disorder. In some cases it can be corrected if sufferers can train themselves to maintain brainwaves at certain frequencies. But this often needs forty to fifty training sessions, which can be rather tough for children suffering from attention deficit disorder. Pope believes that video games are the missing motivation needed to help train children suffering from attention deficit disorder. Moreover the New York State Department of Health used computer games to educate children in the fifth to eighth grades about AIDS

Much focus is placed on the gaming market and how it seems to be increasingly marketing games that promote violence. Examples are made of such highly popular games like Doom, Quake, and Half Life which all focus on a one player role moving through a world in the game constantly shooting at enemies in the games. However games such as the new Mario 3-D game from Nintendo and Sonys Crash Bandicoot which contain no violence whatsoever are very high selling games as well. Furthermore in 1990 Nintendo donated three million dollars to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where Seymour Papert who was the founder of the Media Laboratory at MIT and one of his former students Idit Harel equipped an inner city school in Boston with a network of multimedia computers. They had children from the age of six and up programming and playing games in a childrens programming language system called Logo which Papert developed in the early eighties. Education researcher William D. Winn from the Human Interface Technology Laboratory in Seattle states he taught children in the Seattle area to use computer aided design software from Macromedia Inc to construct a three dimensional virtual world which contained plants, animals, rocks, rivers and clouds. The children then had to program the virtual world so that the elements interacted so that the trees receive the sunlight, water and nutrients they needed to survive.

Karen E. Dill PhD and Craig A Anderson PhD claim in a comprehensive study that the amount of time spent playing video games is associated with lower academic grades. However Seymour Papert found during his studies with school children using the Lego programming tool that The kids quickly jumped from game play situations to serious intellectual engagement with computers, posting problems on the school intranet and helping each other find solutions. He also says Children who are deeply involved in games have thought more about strategies of learning than kids usually do. From the word go, they must take charge. They on their own. Children who grew up on sophisticated video and computer games intuitively understand simulation and three-dimensional graphics. Their brains are wired for it. But just as importantly, they understand the systems that produce the illusions and know what to do when things arent working (Gross 97). Furthermore the Motorola Inc uses virtual-reality tools to train new employees with the skills they need before they let them work on the production line with the complicated machinery. Motorolas Patel says Young workers, eighteen to twenty year olds, who grew up with games figure out virtual reality environments faster than others.

In conclusion it can be seen that the development of video is a great resource for learning. Video games are valuable tool that can be used for a wide array of sources such as helping children with learning difficulties, teaching children the skills they will need in our highly evolving technological society, and helping aid childrens skills for learning. There is too much focus placed on the violence of video games in todays society and not enough emphasis placed on the valuable teaching aids that they are and if this trend continues they may not be able to be used for teaching at all.

TIME....

Time does it control us or do we control it??

I have seen that recently that people have been waging a letter war in the sydney morning herald about time and space and for my first rant why not chose a rather complex subject. In my view time is what controls us, It gives a lose routine as to how things are done i.e most people work a nine to five job and other varouis things as when to go to bed when to get up what time things are done at when the news is on tv what time diffrent tv shows are on shops trading hours the list is rather endless so it could be losely conclueded that time does control us, But when did time begin to start??? many would claim it was when the big bang occured because thats what the measure the start of the universe from but if time started then what came before??? No one knows so if time started then and we have measured it from then,Did the prehistoric man use time?? or did he just get up when the sun came up and go to bed when the sun went down did they have a routine to there day or did routine tasks only begin when the telling of time began time is a powerfull thing it is used as to how long someone is inprisioned for and such other things.As Flavour Flave of Public Enemy use to say time is the greatest thing you can have and thats why he wore a phat arse clock around his neck. So in my opinion time is what controls us, human's have never been able to control time by bending it for time travel and the like, These are things only dreamt about in books and movies. Or mayby its just something outside the parameters of our thinking and logic.

WHAT IS REALY GOIN' ON......

Good evening ladys and gentalman welcome to this weeks presantation,Its bought to you by me and its non fiction, What is realy goin' on.... I have noticed lately that people have been staring at me becuse of the way I dress or how I look, because I have painted my thumbnails black?? Its only a mark of respect for the passing of joe strumer. Or because I look "Punk" and not like one of these foolish wana be gangstars?? beacuse I dont dress the way I do for shock value, I dress that way because of the music I listen to and the fact that I ride BMX and Skate. And why must we punks be picked on singeled out, ridiculed and the like by these gangstars I walk in my suburb and I have to cop shit cause Iam punk and a skater I delibrately get picked to be "rolled" because of how I look,what have I serously done to them, nothing but walk down the street in my suburb and as far as I know that aint a crime and the only way to protect my self is to now carry a weapon,but what am I suposed to say if the police man stops me and I have a weapon.Now Iam not saying that we should go out and look for these people who pick us out for being punk it would make us the same as them,and as we all know we're better that what they will ever be,this aint the bad streets of Detroit,or South Central LA,the Bronx or any other simalar place,I could understand it all if it was but it aint,these people should wake up to them selfs,for fuck's sake you dont even know what being a "bad G" is about,you have never had it as tough as what these people of amarica have, you are just a bunch of blind sheep following what the fuck ever the media hype machine throws out next, picking and singeling us out because we're not like you, where as we accept you leave you alone, Honestly FUCK off and leave us all alone.Witch brings me to the point that Punk just isnt music its a way of life, Its what we belive, its how we act, what we say , what we question, and how we genraly view the world, and its not bad it makes us think and question things that are not right in society i.e the things Pennywise often sing about gun control, violence on tv,the stupid things there goverment has done and this what most have sung about right from The Clash and The Sex Pistols sing about there goverment and things. Punk makes us stand up and have the will to be individuals and choose what we like not follow like sheep such is the example you talk to any punk and most will differ on what bnads they like and dont like and are brave enough to stand up for what they belive. I'de like to close with a few quotes one from Bille Joe from Green Day, someone asked him if he thought punk was dead and his reply was "Punks only dead if you didn't get it to begin with" and the other quote from a Vison song called Close Minded....... "You know that everbody is always saying your realy close minded,you only listen to one type of music,you only go to one type of show,and I say well you know what this is the type of music that we grew up on,this is hte type of music that we play ,punk rock is our way of life,its how we choose to live,and everones else's opnion is worth nothing,dont worry about what I listen to,worry about your own life,cause iam not gona change for you or anyone,I cant help it if you dont like it,and its up to me if I dont want to listen to anything else,its whats in our blood,it flows through our veins,so save your breath cause WE"RE HERE TO STAY!". Punk's not dead the seed just lays dormant until it is awaken and we can be lead in an uprising again.

I'M NOT GOING TO WAR!

Well it seems that it is only a matter of time until the U.S go's to war with IRAQ but I for one will not be going to war if John Howard commits troops and conscription is enforced,why should we be made to go to war for something we dont want,dont belive in and have no part in. In my view John Howard should show some sembalance of a spine and stand up for what the Australian public want,how many protest's,marches,and demonstration's that we dont want a war have to be held until he realise's this point, Isn't the goverment suposed to do whats in the public's interest or what the public wants and it doesn't seem to be happening. How much longer can John Howard keep puting his tounge into Goerge Bush's arse. Last time I checked this Australia not the U.S and we don't need to follow them and do what ever they say because we'll be saved by them,as I saw spray painted somewhere the other day "Is Bush our President?" My reply FUCK NO! so show some spine John Howard and do what the Australian public want. As for George Bush could the world asked for any one worse to be president of the United State's all he has done in the last year or so is pursue Iraq and Sadam Hussain because "He tried to kill my dady" get the fuck over it and stop using a countrys resources to carry out a personal vendeta yes used war heads we're found but it was failed to be mentioned that they we're 20 years old and inculed in the dosier the whole time he has been pursuing Sadam with very little to no evindence of these weapons of mass destruction,now iam not coming to Sadam's defence iam coming to the defence of the world because we dont need another world war and the sooner bush is out of office the better. And in North Korea reactavating there nuclear reactor it is failed to be mentioned that it was because the U.S named it as the axis of evil. So stop focussing on what you only want people to hear and giving us the full truth about things. I for one am not going to war and Iam sure there are many other australian's who share the same view.

IT'S TIME TO RIOT.......

Riot, John Howards place, be there! Enough of this peacfull protests about no war in Iraq its time to riot to make John Howard see what this country wants,witch is to not go to war on Iraq. The abc held a pole in a brisbane local mall asked around about 1000 people and of those 1000 people only 2 said they surproted war, How can he be claiming he is doing what is best when 2 out a 1000 say they do not want us invovled. I was told that John Howard said he needs to do what he thinks is right,but there seems to ba a vast difrence between what he thinks is right and what Australia wants. Even people in his own party have started a faction that does not want war. Mad props must go to Simon Creen fro having the guts when the naval ship left to Iraq say "Im not goin to mince words i dont think you should be going" witch is what the Australian public want.So now is the time to gather large groups of people take them to Kirrabili, the Lodge,and Parliment House in the A.C.T and just riot, chanting "1-2-3-4 WE DONT WANT NO FUCKING WAR!" riot's are the only way that we will get noticed as to what we want, he's not listening now mayby he will when 1000 odd people storm his house or at Parliment.I know it doesn't normaly happen here in Australia but its time for riots to vent our anger and make our views felt,because they sure as hell aren't being listened to now. PUNKS MUST UNITE!

Punks need to unite and stand together to stop the mainstream trying to infiltrate us with this avril, good charlote, sum 41 and the like, The whole reason why Vans Warped didn't come to Oz this year was because of those fucks known as godd charlote, Were suposed to headline Warped but wanted there own tour when Michael Chugg Entertainment who was doing the Warped Tour down under said they would give them extra money to headline Warped they still said no we want our own tour after that Warped fell to pieces. Avril has been quoted as saying "Yeah I listen to hardcore punk bands like matchbox 20". Do you even fucking understand what hardcore punk is? If you want to listen to hardcore punk listen to the likes of AFI, h2o, Snapcase, Boy Sets Fire, 59 Times The Pain, the list is endless how can you claim to be punk when you don't know the first thing about it just becuase you write a song about boys who skate have a guitar and wear a neck tie a pair of chuck taloyrs and an arm sock thing. Fuck off back to what ever back water hicksville town in canada you came from. but the problem that punk is faced with is people are to concerned about being more punk than anyone else and tearing anyone down in the process because "I listen to more underground shit than you" or "your not punk beacuse you didnt do this or that" we must stop this pointless in fighting and stand as one to keep true punk alive in its many diffrent froms, We all need to stand together as one and show the fucks that run the media hype machine that punk is not there to be taken and made main stream, it can't be used as this weeks flavour to make money off it go's against every single thing punk stands for. Im sure when Joe Strumer picked up his guitar and started palying punk he didn't invisage that 40 years down the track the man could use it for a quick buck. Enough Already....

What will it take for our so called prime minister come to the realisation that the Australian public do not want this fucking war we want no part in it and for it not to happen. 250 000 people march in sydney alone and the half-wit that runs this palce comes out and says "In the end, while I respect peoples opinions and i listen to them, My charge as prime minister is to make whatever decisions are in the interest of this country.And I belive the we are handling this is in the best interests of Australia" He also went on to saythat he was not convinced that the mass rallies proved that public opinion was against a posible war. How can you honestly be doing whats best for this country when its not what the people want. what are you going to do Mr Howard when this war breaks out amd we get atacked, will that be in our best interests? We sure as hell won't ahve any one to defend the place because they have all been sent to the middle east, Now don't get me wrong I'm not unpatriotic i surport Oz but when its things I belive in not things that are giving me a bad name because of one half-wit who cant see what we want. If we were beind invaded by another country and it had nothing to do with this war I sure as hell would be up ther fighting them with my bare hands to save this country but don't think for one minute Mr Howard that I will be going to war for you and this bullshit that we need to disarm Iraq,How many fucking weapons of mass destruction do the US have as I see it this is just a war for that have's and have nots the Us want to disarm Iraq because there a threat to them and now they have us and Britan in on it.Mr Howard your getting yourself in for somthing that you can't handle some Pennywise lyrics spring to mind "You'r acting tough and talking loud,soon its all gonna blow up in your face" and what will you do when it blows up in you'r face because I'm sure that the Australian public won't be suporting you. You say that we voted you in to run this country and if we dont like the job you'r doing that we can vote you out at tyhe election but the point I would like to raise is that when we voted you in how could we forsee that this would be what you do . And while I'm on the subject what about the US who can find 800 million odd dollars to give to Turkey and another 200 million odd dollars in loans so it can be used as a launch pad for this war,but you are quiet happy to watch the state of your own nation to rapidly decline and yet you wont do anything about but you can find large amounts of money to fund this war. I sat we in Australia call a referendum to decide wehter our not this country surports the involment of Australia then people can express there own view on it and what ever the outcome happens to be is what we do. While I'm on the rant I wan't to say I've had enough of this force fedding you campaining for the upcoming state election, its bad enough that I have to put up with it when I go to my local shopping centre but when you mail it to me in my own hame thats where i draw the line if I want to vote for you I will come and get the information for it. In my view there is no point in voting in this election because both the partys will fuck up New South Walers as much as each other so I encourge every one of voting age to vote for either the greens or demacrats.
